Historic Longstreet farm is a 9-acre living history museum in Monmouth County which re-creates rural life, domestic tasks, and agricultural practices from the 1890s. Visitors of all ages can watch costumed interpreters complete daily chores, encounter livestock, and step inside remarkably preserved 19th-century architecture.

The day at Longstreet Farm includes:

  • Historic Structures: The site features 19 buildings, including a rare surviving Dutch barn, a smokehouse, an ice house, a blacksmith shop, and a potato house.

  • Live Animals: The working landscape is home to period-accurate livestock breeds, including draft horses, mules, dairy cows, sheep, chickens, and pigs.

  • Historical Farmhouse: Visitors can walk through 14 rooms including a traditional front parlor, a library, and a kitchen equipped with an authentic, working cast-iron cookstove.

  • Victorian Laundry Demonstration: (1:00 - 2:30 pm) You will appreciate the modern conveniences after experiencing a late-Victorian laundry day. From lighting the wood stove to ironing the aprons, the farm covers loads of material during this demonstration. Make sure to hang around for a bit.

  • Eat Lunch Adjacent to the Farm at The Shelter Building Picnic Area, a shaded picnic area. Pack a bagged lunch. No food sold or permitted to be eaten on the farm.

  • Entry into the farm is free

  • The farm closes at 5:00 pm in the summer months

  • The main 14-room Federal-style farmhouse is open on weekends and holidays only

  • For safety, feeding or petting the farm animals is not permitted

  • No food or beverages are sold on-site. The farm operates as an authentic, 1890s living history site, so there will be no concessions, restaurants, or vending machines. Eating is not permitted inside of the farm boundaries to keep the area clean, however, there is an adjacent shaded structure with picnic tables and restrooms used by visitors.

  • Bring a bagged lunch or snack to eat immediately next to the farm at The Shelter Building Picnic Area.
